  • Good News!

    WELCOME COMMUNITY HOMES FOR CHILDREN

Recently the Meyer Memorial Trust awarded a grant of $325,000 for building two community homes for children.  Marion County Commission on Family and Children added $32,000 and the City of Salem granted $150,000.  Part of these monies will be used to purchase a foster home for girls in our Faye Wright neighborhood. With over 1,100 children in foster care in Marion County alone, this will help facilitate the simple plea of “I wish I could have a forever home.” Please join us all in welcoming our new neighbors to the Faye Wright Neighborhood.

If you are interested in supporting foster children by becoming a foster parent, child advocate, respite care provider, or financial donor, please call Lalah Schoen at Catholic Community Services, 503-856-7018, or visit www.oregonfosterparents.com.

  • Pringle Creek Water Shed

Have you ever noticed those oval markers on the curb near your street’s storm drain? Volunteers install them to indicate that everyone living in the FWNA is within the Pringle Creek Watershed. They remind us to not dump waste down the storm drain because what goes in the storm drain ends up in Pringle Creek and eventually the Willamette River.

Storm drain marking is a great summer activity. To volunteer, contact Deborah Topp at 503-588-6211 or dtopp@cityofsalem.net.

Pringle Creek Watershed Council is a non-profit, all volunteer organization whose goals include awareness and education of watershed issues, improving water quality, and preserving riparian corridors to support native plants and wildlife. Stewardship of the creek as a natural entity and sustaining it as a natural watercourse are other goals of the Council.

For more information or to get involved, please contact by email at vjdodier@teleport.com. Pringle Creek also has a web site which is: http://pringlecreek.watershedcouncils.net.

"My wife and I bought our first home on Mize a year ago.  I wanted to know what was going on in my new neighborhood.  When I finally found the meeting time and place I made it a point to go and listen.  Before I knew it I was involved on a monthly basis.  It's really great knowing what's happening in my neighborhood month to month.  I highly encourage ANYONE to visit and get to know their neighbors!" ~Nathan (28 years old)
